Round 2 Jansen Park Secures the Top Spot for The Power

17-11-2016

The NPL provided another day of exciting cricket as the four teams battled it out in round two at Hamilton's Jansen Park.

Velocity vs Galaxy

The day started well for Galaxy who won the toss and put Velocity in to bat. Some impressive batting from Sara McGlashan (98 off 79 balls), Jess Watkin (49 off 41 balls) and Natalie Dodd (42 off 40 balls) saw Velocity walking off at lunchtime with 225 runs under their belt. Galaxy's run chase was looking good with the top 4 all scoring above 20. However, some excellent bowling and fielding (3 run outs in the innings!) saw Velocity claim the win by 37 runs.

Power vs Sonic

On the other pitch, Power was off to a fantastic start with Vic Lind retiring on 94 from 100 balls. Contributions from the middle order including a fast paced 54 off 39 balls from Captain Kerry Tomlinson brought the Power's score to a competitive 228/6. Half centuries from both Tessa Hickson (58) and Anlo van Deventer (51) couldn't get Sonic across the line and the team missed out by 47 runs.

MVP awards went to Sara McGlashan from Velocity, Vic Lind from the Power, and the Play of the Day Award went to Kerry Tomlinson (Power) for the biggest 6!  Tia Saunders took out the Bungy Run Challenge.  Each award winner took home a SKYCITY Hamilton voucher.
